Fall in Michigan: 7 Sayings You’ll Hear Everywhere
The chill is in the air in Michigan, and soon, so will the smell of pumpkin spice.
Whenever fall arrives, Michigan basically turns into a whole new world. The trees are sporting a whole new look, coffee cups are filled with pumpkin spice lattes, and Michiganders don hoodies and sweaters.
Warmer clothes aren't the only thing that Michiganders adopt once fall comes around—we adopt some new phrases too.
Think of these phrases as an oddly-accurate but funny compilation of the things your aunt says while sipping a hot apple cider at a football tailgate.
Here are seven Michigan-centric phrases that you're going to hear at least once this fall.
"Oh, it's sweater weather!"
Alternatively, you could swap sweater for hoodie and it still works.
"We're going to make a cider run."
We call it a run, like it isn't a 45 minute drive there and back. It's totally worth it when you leave with two gallons of cider, a dozen donuts, and a half bushel of apples.
"You packed for the hunting trip?"
Because you'd better packed—bow season kicks off soon.
"The Lions might actually make it this year."
Despite the fact that die-hard Lions fans have been saying this forever, this might actually be the year.
"We're going leaf peepin'."
Fall in Michigan wouldn't be complete without a small road trip to see the leaves change color.
"We're closing the cottage this weekend."
That means all the linens are coming home to be washed, the dock is coming in, and the water is getting turned off.
"It's officially chili season."
Is there actually such a thing as an official chili season? No. But it's here nonetheless.
