Those who buy broccoli florets by the bag may want to check Your products if you bought them from Walmart in Michigan as a massive recall has been put into place.

Recently broccoli was found to be contaminated with listeria in 20 states, including all of the Midwest. This includes Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan and would have most likely been purchased in December.

The FDA has released all the information here which you can read, but this is the basic information as to what broccoli was affected.

Which broccoli is affected by this recall?

According to the FDA:

The specific product involved are 12oz bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart stores identified by having a UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on back of bag, with Best if Used by Date Dec 10, 2024, and Lot Code: BFFG327A6 on front of bag.

There is some good news though, as shopping for broccoli in Walmart is now safe again, as the product is past its best-if-used-by date and should no longer be on store shelves, however, as they continue, make sure to check your product regardless:

Consumers may have frozen the item for later use. Consumers who have this product in their freezers should not consume and discard the product.

As always if you feel like you may be experiencing symptoms of listeria, and have recently consumed the product in question, you'll want to contact your primary care physician as soon as possible. Symptoms of Listeria can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and fatigue.
