Sprinkle Road Closure Through October Creates Detour Concerns For Portage Area Residents

A portion of Sprinkle Road near Portage will be closed to through traffic effective immediately through sometime in October, and some residents are worried this could cause reckless driving in neighborhoods.

The Village of Vicksburg has announced plans to shut down S Ave. to E. V Ave. along Sprinkle Road, which crosses through Pavilion and Brady townships near Portage and Vicksburg.

Although local traffic will still be able to access Sprinkle Road, there are some people who worry that construction could result in people taking side roads through neighborhoods where some residents have said speeding has been an issue before.

One woman commented that this has happened before and one of her pets was allegedly killed because of a reckless driver who is cutting through the neighborhood to avoid traffic:

No one will take this route/detour, they will cut through all the side roads like ours. Someone hit our cat in front of our driveway with the increased traffic. I have lived here for 4 years and have had no such accident prior. I’m done with all this. Poor planning. Poorly executed. And a headache for everyone who lives within this area the entire summer.

The village has set up a detour that takes people along E. S Ave., both north and south on 36th St., through E. U Ave., and down and over to East V Ave. There are other residents who are also concerned about the traffic from schools, and the children being let off buses mixed with the congestion of the construction of this project:

We have SO many kids on this bus route…. And I have yet to drive a day on it (because I live on that stretch), where I do not have opposing traffic headed towards my front end. Worst planned road project I have ever experienced
