You remember that game we played in grade school, or middle school called "Telephone?" One person would start with a statement, then they'd tell the person next to them, who told the person next to them, and so on, and so on... until it got to the last person, who would blurt out what they thought it said. Turns out, not even CLOSE to what the original statement was.

That's what I think is happening in Ohio, because for some reason, this narrative of immigrants snatching up people's cats and dogs from their yards, and eating them is just... awful. But somehow, people believe it's true! How did we get here?

The story right now is that, specifically in Springfield, Ohio, allegedly, Haitian immigrants are capturing animals like ducks, geese, and even people's cats and dogs, and eating them.

This should come as nos surprise, but that narrative is based on a single, unsoured post on Facebook that people decided to blindly share, rather than do any fact checking. But now, this completely insane narrative has spread into the political realm, and top political candidates and sitting politicians are even sharing the post.

Bottom line is... no, it's not happening. In fact, the Springfield Police chief even confirmed it with a statement...

"In response to recent rumors alleging criminal activity by the immigrant population in our city, we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured, or abused by individuals within the immigrant community."

He should probably add that it's also NOT happening within the NON-immigrant community as well, because overall... it's just not happening.

It genuinely blows my mind that something this outrageous has enough "teeth" to stick, and actually has people believing that people in your community are stealing animals and eating them.

The only time you should be afraid of someone stealing animals from your yard, is if you're raising a family of chocolate rabbits... which sounds ridiculous, but also, so does the idea of people stealing your cat for a meal, when there's a grocery store right down the street.

But if you still want to believe this story, then get a load of this dog meat farm in Canada that's DEFINITELY real!
