Michigan Man Shares Story of Getting Slimed At Nickelodeon Studios in 95′
For years I've been telling people about one of the best moments of my life, but missed having total proof until I recently found a long-lost photo at my parent's house. Growing up, my father made parts for the automotive industry, and my mother worked at the elementary school that we attended. They had to work their ass off to support 3, and later, 4 boys.
Fortunately for me, they met in Florida, which is where my mother’s parents, brother, and their friends lived. We spent time in Florida for Christmas quite a lot as kids, and would normally go down every other year to spend it with them, and extended family that also lived down there. In 1995 we had a ton of plans to go snorkeling, go to Universal Studios, and check out other sites as well. It was only a few days in that I fell ill with the flu, and it put me out on my ass for 4 days.
It was only after Z-packing and hydration I finally started coming around. The thing that got me excited and feeling better was that it was finally time to go to Universal Studios. There was one main reason I wanted to go there, and that was to tour Nickelodeon Studios.
NICK was my channel, but in reality, if you were a kid in the 90s, NICK was for all of us. I don’t really need to go into great detail about how much it meant to all of us. We got to see different sets like “The Secret World of Alex Mack” and “What Would You Do?” and at the end of the tour there was a game show-type presentation.
Parents were seated on one set of bleachers, and the kids were on another. The host came out with all the lights and music and said “Alright before we get started I just have one question.” Before this dude even had time to finish his next question, I answered it for him. After the crappy week I had, I knew I had come there to do one thing…”Who here wants to get slim- ME!”
He was prompting someone to get slimed, a tradition at Nickelodeon. I jumped up and screamed at the guy with my hand raised, almost demanding I be chosen. It was probably the most energy I had exerted in a week. Without hesitation, he pointed at me and said “You! Get down here you’re getting slimed today.” I turned and screamed at my brothers “OH MY GOD.”
The bummer was that I had to get changed and stay in the back until it was the end and time to get slimed. They brought me out and sat me in a kiddie pool asked my name and favorite NICK show I believe, and then proceeded to dump a massive tub of dark green slim ALL OVER MY HEAD.
It was one of the best days of my life, and after a shower in the back and getting changed, the rest of the trip was so great. I don't know who those people are in the picture, or who the host was, but I'll always be thankful for them and my parents for such an amazing experience.
