Lake Huron Appears To Breathe In Stunning New Footage

The Great Lakes are known to do some strange things under certain weather conditions, but breathing is probably the last thing you’d expect to hear.

But recently, the Anchorage Retreat Center posted a video on their Facebook page that was apparently filmed by two people who were on Lake Huron and witnessed the lake do something incredible.

The video shows the water rising and lowering underneath a giant shelf of ice. The water's movement mixed with the air underneath the ice shelf seems to give off the effect as if the lake itself is breathing.

That, of course, is just my assumption, as I’m not 100% sure how anything like this can actually happen.

This is something that people like Susan Miller remember all too well while visiting family who lived near the lake:

When you hear this sound from a frozen lake you are standing on top of, in the cold dark night air, it is so creepy. This happened to my children & me, our first lake experience, around midnight, New Year's Eve 2000! Scared the living daylights out of us. Especially when no one knew what was going to happen around the globe when the date turned from the year "1999" to "2000".
