
Kalamazoo Wings To Host Historic Outdoor Game In 2027
The Kalamazoo Wings will make ECHL history in the 2026-2027 season by playing its first-ever outdoor game in Kalamazoo.
The "Winter Classic-" style games have been a fun break in the normal hockey season for the NHL, and that trend has spread to other leagues as well. Now, for the first time, the ECHL will be participating, as the K-Wings recently announced:
Kalamazoo Wings Will Play Outdoor Game in 2027
The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks, announced Monday that the team will host an Outdoor Game versus the Toledo Walleye on Jan. 31, 2027, at Western Michigan University’s Waldo Stadium.
The K-Wings have played outdoor games before, however, this will only be the 4th ever outdoor game in Michigan's history, as the continued:
The event marks the first-ever outdoor professional hockey game in Southwest Michigan, the third regular-season professional hockey game played outdoors in the state (2013 [AHL]: Grand Rapids Griffins and Toronto Marlies | 2014 [NHL]: Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium), and the third time Toledo and Kalamazoo have met outdoors (2014 and 2021).
The Outdoor Game Postgame Skate Ticket Package will go on sale Friday, July 31, at 10 a.m. ET. and GA tickets for the event will go on sale Friday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. ET.
2026 will see two Winter Classics in the NHL in the same calendar year, with the New York Rangers having defeated the Florida Panthers 5-1 on January 2nd, and the upcoming game between Colorado Avalanche & the Utah Mammoth on December 31st.
