Indiana Is Doing Away With Wind Chill Advisories, Watches & Warnings
Every year, the National Weather Service tries to do its best to come up with lingo and terminology. That makes sense for the ever-changing weather that we receive throughout the country, particularly in each state.
This year, particularly in Indiana, we are expecting a wetter, colder, and most likely snowier winter for the 2025 season, and it seems fitting that this year the National Weather Service is now doing away with windchill advisories, windchill watches, and windchill warnings this winter.
As WXYZ pointed out, this was not because it wouldn’t be chilly, but because terminology is changing for how they report these weather warnings:
Wind Chill Watch will become Extreme Cold Watch
Wind Chill Warning will become Extreme Cold Warning
Wind Chill Advisory will become Cold Weather Advisory.
This actually seems to be more accurate to what they actually reporting, so for people in comment sections, saying that the weather channel has gone woke, please spend winter completely sealed away from the world.
These watches and warnings are planned to be issued during the following conditions:
Extreme cold watches and warnings will be issued when the forecast calls for -30° windchill. The cold weather advisory will be issued when windchill values of -20° are expected.
Basically, the verbiage used in these is more accurate to what you can expect from the weather. At the end of the day, all I want is some snow on Christmas. I don't need any words changed for that, do I? Because if so, let's start calling it a festive cold dusting. Anything to get into the holiday spirit.
