Cincinnati Golfer Struck By Lightning At Pebble Creek Survived With Temporary Numbness

In the last 20 years, there have been nine people in Michigan who have tragically passed away after being hit by lightning, which makes it all the scarier recently, when a man captured the moment he was struck by lightning while playing golf at Pebble Creek golf course in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The incident happened when the group of golfers was leaving the course due to a heavy storm on August 7. As the man’s friends were struggling to get the golf cart up the hill, many of them were laughing while standing under a tree with an umbrella and golf clubs.

That’s when danger struck, and the following video was captured. Luckily, the man, Chris Schiavone, survived with only temporary numbness and hearing loss.

The United States now averages about 20 lightning fatalities per year, according to the National Weather Service.

Luckily, there is better safety education and modern building access, which has reduced the numbers down from where they used to be. There were only 14 recorded in 2024 and 21 recorded in 2025.

Going back to Michigan’s lightning fatalities, one thing seems to be a common denominator: standing underneath a tree during a storm is not a safe place to be, as four of the 9 Fatalities took place while the victim was underneath the tree, while one of them, a 68-year-old man in Detroit, was also killed by lightning when he was playing golf.

Anytime there is a major storm with potential lightning. It’s always safe to seek shelter and not take any risks.
