Michigan Cities See Violent Crime Rates Far Above State Average In Four Regions
We found a list of Michigan’s most dangerous area codes, which span nearly 2 dozen cities throughout the Lower Peninsula.
Detroit has regularly ranked as the state's highest violent crime rate per capita, which comes at around 43.92 per thousand residents.
The FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program and Locations Inc. report particularly high-risk pockets of crime around the W. Chicago Ave./Livernois Avenue area, Mac Avenue/Helen Street, and Gratiot Avenue.
However, places like Flint and Port Huron also struggle with violent crime rates, as their numbers are about 24.46 per thousand residents and problems stemming from the Chamber Street and Stonegate Drive area as well.
We also can’t forget about here in Southwest Michigan struggling with crimes in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, even though there are far fewer residents than Detroit, per capita. We still struggle with crime in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph as well.
The trouble even extends to the Saginaw and Bay City area, where they report violent crime rates roughly 4 to 5 times the state average, with specific problems stemming around the E. Hall Ave. and E. Genesee Ave. area. With all these findings, we can determine the area codes with the highest crime rates in the state.
