The Detroit Lions just wrapped up the best regular season in franchise history.

With a 15-2 record, the franchise clinched its first No. 1 seed in the NFL playoffs ever, won the most games in a single season ever, set a new franchise record for consecutive wins in a single season, won the NFC North in consecutive years for the first time and led the league in points scored.

Under the leadership of head coach Dan Cambell, general manager Brad Holmes, and owner Sheila Ford Hamp, the Lions have pulled themselves from the depths of the NFL's basement and look destined to enjoy successful seasons for years to come.

Of course, Detroit fans know it hasn't always been easy. To enjoy today's success is to understand the failures of yesterday.

Counting the first few years in Portsmouth as the Spartans, the Detroit Lions franchise has played professional football for 95 years. Following the 2024 offseason, only eight other franchises have a worse regular season winning percentage than the Lions - and only the Arizona Cardinals were founded before 1960 in that group of teams.

For what it's worth, the Lions have the 9th-most total wins in league history. However, only the Arizona Cardinals have lost more games. They've lost 812 games, so it could always be worse.

The Lions have an all-time record of 606-709-34, giving the franchise a .461 winning percentage. The Lions would have to go undefeated for the next 6+ years to eclipse .500 at the fastest pace. Since that's not happening, it would take over a decade of 10+ win seasons to eclipse .500.

To contextualize it all further, I've put together the gallery below with the Lions' all-time records against each active NFL team, ranked from lowest winning percentage to highest. Strap in, because the Lions only have a winning record against seven other active franchises.
